I remember watching Justin Gatlin cross the finish line at the 2004 Athens Olympics, earning him the gold medal. The image of Gatlin, arms raised in victory, was seared into his memory. Then the following year, at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, Gatlin's dominance continued with wins in the 100 and 200 meters.Â
Before then, I had a casual interest in track events. But witnessing his victories, my interest blossomed into a fervent aspiration. Now it is more than a dream; it is my life’s pursuit. I do more than watch track and field performances, I analyze them. If you want to be great, you watch greatness, hoping to improve and make your mark in this sport.Â
Watching and analyzing I have even switched takeoff legs in one of my events after over a decade on the other leg. So, Gatlin has unknowingly passed the baton of inspiration to me, and I hope to pass it on to the next generation.
